Wonderblox

I love supporting Kickstarter campaigns for education as much as I can.  While I might not be able to supply any funds, I sure love blogging about it to help spread the word and see all the cool ideas out there.  The latest Kickstarter I became aware of is called, Wonderblox.  This is an innovative app that uses regular wooden blocks to spell out words on the iPad by placing them in the correct spot.  The way this works is through the iPad attachment that reflects the iPad camera so it can see what's being placed on it's screen.  This can be a great way to combine the physical world of "play" into that of technology as well as increase a child's love of learning.

I highly recommend checking out the campaign and video by clicking here!!!

Lost Function

The Lost Function is a fascinating 3D Math adventure game in a virtual world that is launching a Kickstarter campaign to add voice-over to their game.  This is a game where students interact w/ other characters while trying to solve Math equations/problems to advance in the storyline.  Right now the game consists of a wide variety of Math topics such as: fractions, decimals, graphing, and more.  Also, this game relates to Common Core Standards and uses a wide variety of questions types (ie, fill in the blank, multiple choice, etc.).

"The Kickstarter campaign is to help students with vision impairments, emotional/behavior disorders, dyslexia, autism, ADD/ADHD, struggling readers, and English as a second language (ESL/ELL)."

I recommend checking out their campaign by clicking here, which goes live Tuesday.

World of Classcraft

World of Classcraft is an ambitious Kickstarter project by Shawn Young.  A Kickstarter is a way for companies to find funding from donations of others in a limited amount of time.  I really like these as it helps get some excellent startup companies noticed.

World of Classcraft is an innovative idea of bringing the mega-popular online role-playing game into the classroom.  The way this work is students would pick a character from one of three classes: mage, warrior, healer.  The students then progress through real-life situations and helping out others/collaborating to gain experience points.  From this they can gain rewards, level up, etc.  Bad behavior or doing bad on homework or tests can result in loss of experience/health points, and the player can even die (ie, Saturday detention).
